I fell in love with Marrakesh at first sight already in 2009, when I visited it with my friend Maria. There’s maze of small streets of Medina (old town), the endless stalls with all kinds of products: from lamps, leather goods to carpets, bathrooms, dishes, an unique Riads (tradicional hotels) and atmospheric courtyards with all sorts of ornaments and flowers.
In this city a special atmosphere, as if you go back to the past and touch it by your hands. It’s a city of contrasts and do not everyone can like it, but if you don’t try to compare it with other European cities, don’t criticise it for defects, dirt and noise, but instead just try to soak up the mood and dissolve in the crowd scurrying about their business people, you will not be disappointed.
In my opinion, it can be hard to live a long time inside of old city of Marrakech (Medina), but 2-3 days it’s what you need. Or you can stay for a longer time, but be sure to mix it with different trips around, as tour to Atlas mountains, beach or desert. You will need this trips to relax after tense city life.
Be ready:
– To bargain. In the market and in street shops you can bargain up to 50% or even more, depend of your skills
– Ask in the hotel an advance about price for a taxi and don’t forgot negotiate price with the taxi driver before you get inside the car.
– Google map is useless, it doesn’t have all maze of small alleys of old town. Better to prepared in advance a detailed map.
– You should always have a coins for a taxi or toilets (even in restaurants and museums you need to give some coins for a service) or for local guides, which will imposed to help you find a road
– You can forget about heels and evening dress, but maybe good shoes are also better left at home
– Carefully take pictures of people. The locals don’t like to be photographed.
In Marrakech you definitely need:
– To stay at one of the classic Riad inside of old town
– Enjoy Moroccan mint tea (classic one with lot of sugar) with local cookies
– Get lost in the maze of alleys and by accident found an interesting cafe or shop with beautiful carpets
– Visit hamam
– Stroll along the city’s main square and have a look at the king of the snakes and maybe to do henna paint on the hands
– Visit the Bahia Palace
and many many other inspirational things)

At the very end, I posted pictures from my first trip to Morocco in 2009. Couple of photos with breathtaking views of Legzira beach, the famous one for its stone arches which unfortunately no longer exists. Couple of views of the Atlas Mountains, and a couple photos of the city Essaouira.
I hope soon to visit also Rabat and Fes, I believe they are beautiful as Marrakesh

В этом году я отметила свой день рождения в Марракеше и это было прекрасным сюрпризом для меня.
В Марракеш я влюбилась с первого взгляда еще в 2009 году, кого я побывала там с моей подругой Марией. Лабиринт маленьких улочек медины (старого города), бесконечные лавки с всевозможными товарами, начиная от ламп, кожаных изделий, до ковров, ванн и посуды. А неповторимые риады (местные отели) с атмосферными двориками, всевозможными орнаментами и цветами.
В этом городе особая атмосфера, как-будто ты попал в прошлое и можешь потрогать его руками. Это город контрастов и не всем будет по вкусу, но если не пытаться сравнивать его с европейскими городами, не критиковать за недостатки, пыль и шум, а просто попытаться впитать настроение, раствориться в толпе снующих по своим делам жителей, то вы не будете разочарованы.
На мой взгляд долго жить в старом городе Марракеш будет тяжело, но дня 2-3 то, что нужно. Либо можно остановиться на больший срок, но обязательно миксовать нахождение в городе с выездами в горы, на пляж или в пустыню, так как город вас будет держит в напряжении.
Нужно быть готовым:
– Торговаться. На рынке и в других уличных лавках можно сторговаться до 50 % и даже больше, зависит от ваших способностей
– Заранее поинтересоваться в отеле сколько стоит такси и договариваться с таксистом о стоимости прежде чем сесть в машину.
– Google map бесполезен, на нем не указаны лабиринты маленьких переулков старого города. Лучше заранее запастись подробной картой.
– Всегда при себе иметь мелочью для такси, помощников в поиске дороги, для туалетов (даже в кафе и музеях нужно оставлять мелочь за сервис)
– Можете забыть о туфлях и вечернем платье, но и даже хорошую обувь лучше оставить дома)
– С осторожностью фотографировать людей, местные жители совершенно это не любят.
В Марракеше обязательно нужно остановиться в одной из Риад старого города, выпить мятный марокканский чай (подается с сахаром) с классическими сладостями, заблудиться в лабиринте переулков и чисто случайно найти интересное кафе или лавку с самыми красивыми коврами, посетить хамам, посмотреть на главной площади на повелителей змей и посетить дворец Бахия, а также много других интересных и вдохновляющий мест.

В самом конце я выложила фотографии из моей первой поездки в Марокко с прекрасными видами пляжа Легзира, известный своими каменными арками, которых к сожалению больше не существует, виды гор Атлас и парой других фотографий города Эй-Сувейра.
Надеюсь в сроком времени получиться посетить Рабат и Фес.
